About LSA Lightning

LSA Lightning is a community travel baseball organization committed to player development, competitive play, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Players selected for our teams should expect to make a strong commitment to practices, games, tournaments, and team activities throughout the year.

Our coaching staff is dedicated to helping players reach their full potential both on and off the field. Teams may be led by experienced non-parent coaches, parent coaches, or a combination of both, depending on the age level and team structure.

Program Overview

  • Winter training and team activities begin prior to the spring season, January to March.
  • Teams will practice regularly throughout the year, outside from March through July, weather permitting.
  • Players can expect multiple baseball activities each week, including games, practices, and training sessions.
  • Teams will participate in league play and competitive tournaments throughout the season.
  • The season generally concludes in mid-to-late summer in July.

Commitment Expectations

Players selected to an LSA Lightning team should plan to:

  • Attend practices, games, and tournaments consistently.
  • Prioritize team commitments throughout the season.
  • Demonstrate positive sportsmanship, effort, and teamwork.
  • Communicate in advance regarding unavoidable conflicts.

Age Group Placement

We strongly encourage all players to try out with their current grade level, regardless of birth date, unless prior approval has been granted by LSA Lightning before tryouts begin.

Our goal is to place every player in the environment where they can best develop and succeed. If our coaching staff determines that a player would be better served competing at a different level, we may discuss moving that player up or down following the evaluation process.

Tryout Attendance

Each age group will have two scheduled tryout dates. Players are only required to attend one tryout session to be fully evaluated.

Returning and new players alike should plan to attend one of the available tryout dates for their age group. While players are welcome to attend both sessions if schedules permit, doing so is not required and will not provide a significant advantage in the evaluation process.

Our coaching staff has extensive experience evaluating players and is confident that one tryout provides sufficient information to make informed roster decisions. For that reason, we ask families not to seek guidance from coaches or staff regarding whether they should attend one or both sessions. Simply attend one tryout and let your player’s performance speak for itself.

Early Offers and Team Formation

Please read carefully. Due to the increasingly competitive travel baseball landscape, LSA Lightning may offer roster spots to select players before all tryouts have been completed. In some cases, we may also begin planning future teams while the current season is still underway.

While this is not our preferred approach, it has become a necessary part of operating a successful travel baseball program. We ask all families to be respectful of players, parents, coaches, and staff throughout the tryout process.

Please understand that during the tryout and evaluation period, we will not be able to answer questions regarding player rankings, roster decisions, team placement, or tryout evaluations. Our staff will communicate directly with families when decisions have been made.

Tryout Information

Players should arrive dressed in full baseball attire, including:
